wash day

Washed my hair this week end (end of October)

Routine
1. I put coconut oil in my hair in the morning. Around 8 hrs. Then baby woke up and mum came, well to cut a long story short. I ended up with coconut oil in my head the whole day. Had to wear my funny little Airtel hat to hide the mess.
2. Finally got to continue with my washday at 19:00hrs that evening. Shampooed my hair with Tresemme Naturals shampoo. The reason why I shampooed my hair so soon after the last one was for two reasons. One I have been working out recently, which equals sweat. And secondly I used a lot of heavy products in my hair the last time. Therefore my hair looked limp.
3. Conditioned my hair with Tresemme Naturals conditioner. Left it on for about 5 mins in a shower cap then rinsed it off.
4. I then used Chocolate Hair Vanilla Care recipe for an aloe deep conditioner (moisturizing). Left it in my hair for about 30 mins. Would have loved to leave it for longer but was hard pressed for time. Rinsed it out.
5. T-shirt dried my hair and then used Kinky-Curly Knot Today leave in conditioner on damp hair.
6. Added Olive Oil moisturizing lotion.
7. Used Kinky-Curly Curling Custard to style my hair. Was finishing pretty late so didn’t finish styling my hair. Put the rest in box braids and whore a duku (a small piece of chitenge cloth wrapped around the head) to church.

Lessons learnt.
    - Apply Kinky-Curly Knot Today leave in conditioner to wet hair. Not as dry as it was when I did it.
    - Need to have more free time to do my hair. Especially considering the fact that I am still learning. So that I leave enough room to style my hair.
    - The Kinky-Curly Knot Today leave in conditioner seemed to work well with the products used in this routine.
2 weeks post relaxer. (Mid October)

Washday Routine

1. Prepoo with coconut oil. Put hair in shower cap. I like the feel of my hair when I pre poo with coconut oil
2. Section hair and detangle. I put a mix of Tresemme Naturals conditioner, aloe vera gel and water. Did not like the feel of it. I think it was the conditioner. Will not use it again. After I finished detangling life happened. Baby decided to be fussy so only continued after 2 hours
3. Rinse out
4. Wash hair with a moisturizing shampoo. I used Johnson’s and Johnson’s.
5. Used Tresemme Naturals moisturizing conditioner. Sat in shower cap for 5 mins. I really like it. I think I will buy it again. Rinsed it out.
6. Add hair mayonnaise. Left for 10 minutes and rinsed it out
7. T-shirt dry hair
8. Applied Kinky-Curly Knot Today leave in conditioner. Didn’t like it at all. Maybe I put too much. I prefer Dr. Miracles. Maybe because of the previous products used will try it with other products.
9. Apply mousse. Came with relaxer kit.
10. Blow dry hair. Was not planning to use heat until the next relaxer but unfortunately my curlformers and flexi rods did not come. Used a heat protectant though.
11. Applied olive oil hair lotion and then used a heavy oil. Cant remember the name. (One of the no-no’s I know, but was desperate)
12. Used rollers in the front part of hair.

Was finishing after midnight. Did not mange to take pictures.
But the result was not too bad. I don’t like the feel of my hair. Does not feel as soft as the last time. But it is moisturized to some extent. Experienced a lot of breakage. Also my hair looked heavy with all the products I had used. Mmmmh I must remember less is more.
Been wearing it in a pony tail for the past two days but will be putting it in a permanent style today. That should last me the week.

Relaxer touch up

This is the process of my touch up. Done in the first week of October.
  1. Prepoo with olive oil. Left it in for a long time. While I fed and bathed baby and tidied up. Did not like the feel of the hair with olive oil as a prepoo. Maybe need to put my hair in a shower cap.
  2. Finger detangled the hair. I found this process very long. First time I was trying it. But I loved the result. I felt my fingers were not as harsh as the comb and did not rip through my hair. Had less shed and broken hair. However this took me a long time.
  3. Applied dax to relaxed hair. Think I did not put enough. Next time will put thicker coats
  4. Applied conditioner to the natural part of my hair. The bottom part.
  5. Used olive oil no lye regular relaxer kit. I forgot to time from the time I first applied the relaxer to the end so I may have left it on for too long. But from the time I finished applying the relaxer to the time I rinsed it off it was about 10 mins. I did not apply the relaxer well as the touched up ends (where I put the dax) also ended up with quite a lot of relaxer. Need to perfect that skill. Maybe use less relaxer. Also reduce the time to about 7 mins
  6. Thoroughly rinse and apply neutralizing shampoo
  7. Used conditioner in relaxer kit and left it for about 5mins. Hair felt pretty soft.
  8. Deep conditioned using a homemade deep conditioner (1/4 cup aloe vera gel and 1/4 cup coconut oil) from chocolate hair vanilla care. Left it in shower cup for a long time as baby woke up. The hair felt great after I had rinsed it out. Soft and smooth, loved the feeling.
  9. Applied Dr. Miracles leave in conditioner. Loved it as well, smells divine.
  10. Applied hair mousse that came with relaxer kit.
  11. Then used Dark and Lovely moisturizing lotion for sealing. Great product would use it again.
  12. Used a small amount of heat protector.
  13. Blew my hair. Used both cold and hot setting.

My main aim was to use moisturizing products for the entire time as I always end up with dry hair. And in this case my hair did not feel dry. Hair felt nice and soft and not brittle. I think it was a successful styling session. I do not like the ends after blow-drying so will rarely do it. Also some of my hair is over processed. Need to be more careful when relaxing.
Have not decided on the daily moisturizing product yet. As it is cold and dry season I am not using a homemade spritz.
Next touch up slated for the second quarter of 2015. Only two for next year or three - will see how it goes.
